MEET THE COACH

Justin Shelby

I first got into Ultimate during college. After spending countless hours learning how to improve my own athleticism to improve my game, I realized I wanted to help other players do the same.

Today, I work with athletes across every level of the game. That includes professional players, elite and Nationals level club players, high level competitors across the world, Masters athletes, and players simply looking to get back into Ultimate or take the next step in their game.

Background:

- Master’s degree in Kinesiology
- Strength and Conditioning Assistant - University of Texas Men’s and Women’s Basketball
- Experience working with professional athletes in the NFL, MLB, MLS, and NBA

Currently, I work in Japan as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for a Professional basketball team in Japan’s top league!

Mission

My mission is to optimize your Ultimate Frisbee game through a comprehensive coaching experience. With an abundance of conflicting online information at fingertips, my goal is not only to teach you the “what to do”, but also tackle the science behind “how to do” and “why we do” exercises in your program.

I’ve worked as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach for powerlifters, weightlifters, athletes of all sports, and everyday people just looking to get fit and strong. I’ve been trusted to work with golfers and high-level business executives whose careers depend on staying health and out on the course.

For the past few years, I have also worked as a rehab exercise specialist in various sports medicine clinics, including the office of the head chiropractor for all Washington DC professional sports. I’ve studied under and learned from some of the greatest clinicians in the sports medicine world. I help patients use specific exercises to get out of pain, rehab from an injury, improve mobility and strength, return to their sport, and prevent pain from coming back. I’ve been able to help clinics grow by learning and applying my methods of assessment and corrective exercise. I’ve worked with NFL, MLB, and MLS players, athletes, and everyday people with numerous injuries.

In addition to being a trainer, I am also a licensed massage therapist and do clinical and sports massage. I currently work and travel with a Division 1 college Track & Field team. I am also currently working on my Master's degree in Kinesiology.

NSCA - Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS)
